Rossers celebrate 60 years

JACKSONVILLE —

John B. and Mary Rebecca (Becky) Duckworth Rosser recently celebrated 60 years of marriage with two receptions held in their honor.  The first event was held at the River Club in Suwannee, Ga., hosted by their son, John Thomas Rosser. Family members and friends attended.

The Rossers lived in Georgia from 1952 through 1954 and then again from 2005 through 2010.

The second reception was hosted by their daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Will Cumbee, at their home on O’Keefe Road in Jacksonville for family and friends on April 2, 2011.

The Rossers were married March 15, 1951, at the First United Methodist Church in Belton when John came home on leave from the Air Force. Becky was in her senior year at Mary Hardin Baylor, completing her degree in music education.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Mr. Rosser worked as an air traffic controller. When he retired from the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) he returned to college at Texas A&M, where he earned hi bachelor and master’s degrees.

The couple then moved to Rusk, where Mr. Rosser taught high school. Mrs. Rosser also taught private piano lessons throughout her career. Mrs. Rosser retired after 26 years of teaching. She spent the early years of her retirement traveling to England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

Mr. Rosser began selling real estate and became a broker when he no longer taught school. This led to his desire to train to be a real estate appraiser. He obtained his appraisal certification and opened his own business in downtown Rusk.

The Rossers have three children: James (Jay) Alexander Rosser, Rebecca Ann Cumbee, and John Thomas (Tom) Rosser. Their eldest son, Jay, is recently deceased. They have 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
