The Church of Wells once again became open to question Friday when multiple news agencies reported a Feb. 1 arrest of Jacob Gardner, 25, one of the controversial church's elders and most powerful figures.
Gardner was arrested for criminal trespassing and resisting arrest according to Gregg County Jail records.
He was arrested on the Sabine High School campus in Liberty City, which is located in a rural setting between the towns of Kilgore and Gladewater.
Religious-oriented events were taking place at the school on the day of Gardner's sequestering.
Reports stated that Gardner was booked into the Gregg County Jail and freed the same day after posting a $1,500 bond.
The church located from Arlington, Texas to the southern Cherokee County community of Wells in January 2012.
The church has been accused of being a cult, a charge that church leaders have denied on multiple occasions.
