VTM board reviews renovations progress.jpg

Vanishing Texana Museum board members on Monday reviewed the renovation in progress inside the Jacksonville Senior Citizens' Center, which will allow for expanded floor space in the museum, which is home to an artifact collection “that has grown considerably” since the museum's move from the local library, according to board chairman Sam Hopkins. The group – consisting of Fred Douglas High School memorabilia expert Mrs. Charlie Esco, City Councilwoman Ann Chandler, City Secretary Betty Thompson, and Cherokee County Historical Commission member John Thomason – was pleased by work done by the City Public Works Department, which uncovered the building's original 1938 outer rock wall that hidden away by an earlier project to create more indoor space. Renovations will continue on the museum for several more weeks before it will be open to the public, according to Hopkins.
