Schools, entities to observe MLK Day

JACKSONVILLE — Public and private school campuses in Cherokee County will be closed Monday in observance of the national Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, as will Jacksonville College and the Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary.

City offices – with the exception of Reklaw – also will be closed, as are many financial institutions and federal post offices. Cherokee County offices also will be closed; so will libraries in Bullard, Jacksonville, Alto, Rusk, Wells and Troup.

County residents are invited to join Jacksonville's annual MLK parade, which starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Norman Activity Center, 525 E. Commerce.

The route will go west, along Commerce Street, then turn north at Main Street and continue to Sweet Union Baptist Church, 302 N. Main.

The church will host a program that begins

at noon.
