BEAUMONT – Although their names are being withheld pending notification of kin, a couple from Jacksonville who recently moved to Beaumont suffered a tragic fate Thursday.

Both died in an apparent murder-suicide that sprayed bullets through a south Beaumont neighborhood.

Beaumont police said a man chased his wife down a Beaumont street, firing a gun at her. The fleeing woman hailed a city maintenance truck. After the truck driver let the woman in, her husband fired through the closed passenger window and shot the woman in the chest, according to reports.

The man continued chasing the truck and shooting. The man then put the gun to his head and shot himself while police were pursuing him.

The man died at the scene. His wife died at a Beaumont hospital, where she was taken by ambulance.

The couple recently moved to Beaumont street after living at the Hicks Trailer Park in Jacksonville for many years, sources said Thursday.
