Posaditos Mexican Cafe will be closed indefinitely after a fire erupted in the restaurant’s kitchen Sunday morning.
The fire started between 9:45 and 10 a.m. at the Beaumont Street eatery while crews were in the midst of prep cooking prior to business hours, officials from the Jacksonville Fire Department said.
“The fire started in the kitchen and spread to the attic,” said Capt. Kevin McKinney of JFD. “The fire marshal (Brent Smith) will be looking into the situation on Monday to determine the cause of the fire.”
No injuries occurred as a result of the fire, which McKinney said took close to an hour-and-a-half to contain because of its location. Authorities spent nearly four hours at Posaditos on Sunday, making sure the building was secure.
About two-dozen firefighters were at the scene to battle the blaze, including five members of the Rusk Fire Department. RFD supplied a ladder truck and three JFD fire engines responded to the incident.
Officials from the restaurant say there is currently no set time-table on how long the restaurant will be closed. They say an insurance adjuster will survey the damage Monday before the financial impact of the situation will be known.
