Having lived in Cherokee County for more than thirty-two years, my wife and I have seen many changes, some for good, others not so much. When George W. was elected president there was a groundswell of high expectation. One dear lady wrote a letter to the editor saying she almost believed he was Jesus returning for the rapture. Conservatism swept over East Texas like molasses on a pancake. Now, ten years later, it is time to set the record straight.
Jesus was, and is a liberal! He healed the sick and even raised the dead. Free health care. At the sermon on the mount, He fed the multitudes. Food for the poor. Jesus said “Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not ..” Free child care. “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone . .” He was against capital punishment.
Please don’t waste your time saying I’m taking all this out of context, preachers do the same thing every Sunday morning.
