United Fund meets ambitious goal for year

Jacksonville Daily Progress

JACKSONVILLE — The United Fund of Cherokee County met its ambitious goal of $117,500 for the 2012 -2013 campaign.  There were concerns going in about us reaching the goal because of the economy, business closings, loss of jobs, etc. But, we did make it  thanks to the 100+ volunteers that worked in the campaign and all of the people who made pledges and donated money.  We couldn't have made it without each and every one of you giving of your time and money.

A special thanks to the businesses that allowed United Fund representatives to come in and talk to their employees.  Also, to the businesses that allow employees to give by payroll deductions. This allows an employee to give more money than they could if it was a one-time donation.

Tons of gratitude goes to Betty E. Taylor, United Fund secretary.  She plans the kick-off luncheons and keeps track of the money coming in.  Also, Patsy McLeod, President, who took up the slack and was invaluable during the campaign.

Our Chairperson for the Major Division was Randy Gorham.  Chair-person for the General Division was Beverly Jimerson and Fran Daniel led the Employee Div-ision.  Larry Long headed the Rusk Division.  Also, Nathan Jones, Past President, and Greg Wade, Vice President, attended planning meetings and gave support.

This money will be distributed to eighteen non-profit organizations, along with campaign expenses.

These non-profits depend on the United Fund for this money.  Many of them are seeing their other funding sources shriveling or disappearing all together.

So, a huge thanks to everyone!  Once again, the citizens of Cherokee County have responded to the campaign and made it possible to raise the money to meet our goal!
