Brook Hill spikers win big behind Anderson's 15 kills

BULLARD —

Samantha Anderson brought her “A” game to the gym Tuesday night, and when she does that the Brook Hill lady Guard are mighty hard to stop.

The Lady Guard improved to 7-1 in district play by strolling to a three-set sweep over Richardson-Canyon Creek on Tuesday night at the Herrington Sports Complex.

Behind 15 kills, three service aces, and five blocks from Anderson, Brook Hill cruised to win by scores of 25-10, 25-13, and 25-18.

The Lady Guard win sets up Brook Hill (12-5; 6-1), for a shot at a tie for first-place in district on Thursday when McKinney Christian comes to Bullard with an unblemished league record.

I am really proud of the way the girls have really hustled and stayed positive this season,” said head coach Joanna Rathbun. “There are some things we need to improve on but they are starting to work together better as a team, and they are still getting better each game.

Thursday will be a big game for us, but if we focus on working as a team the way we have been we should be alright,” Rathbun added.

Sophomore, Charlie Niles was a huge factor for Brook Hill, in a game ridden with unforced errors for the Lady Cougars.

Niles led the Lady Guard in assists with 14, slammed out three kills, and made four digs. Senior Hayden Langemeier, made one of her three kills on the night midway through game two, and started a run for Brook Hill at 15-10, that ended 25-13.

Lindsey Wheeler, a junior, also had a big night for Brook Hill. She picked up six assists and five digs.

Four ties in game three was aided by seven unforced Lady Guard mis-hits before sophomore Emily Webb stepped up to make a block, a kill and served out a five point run to make it a 24-17, Brook Hill advantage.

A long-time friend, Doug Young, is no longer among us. He and his wife, who preceded him, were known and respected in our neighborhood around the golf course; she for her early morning walks and love of dogs; Doug for being an avid golfer with a fine-tuned sense of humor.
