LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Keep it fair for voters

JACKSONVILLE — We have asked Shannon Cornelius – Elections Administrator of Cherokee County that the early voting on the JISD bond election in November be held at Jacksonville Library rather than on JISD school property in order to be fair to all voters in the school district.

The last bond election was won by the early vote count due to it being held at the school admin. bldg on the Troup Hwy. and many voters did not go out there and vote.

I have asked Travis Clardy to introduce a bill so no early voting can be held on any school property such as in the past Friday night home coming football games, and at different schools at night.

The school district has about 1,000 employees and this is a big advantage already for them to win the bond election.

Let's level the playing field so we are fair to all of the voters.

Thank you,

Rod Carnahan,

Jacksonville

  • Road blocks swept away for homosexuals

I was recently reading a ministry newsletter written by a friend. In this newsletter, an excerpt from a book written in 1974 entitled The Vision and Beyond was referenced:
“There are only two forces that hold back homosexuals from giving themselves over completely to their sins, and they are rejection by society and the repudiation and teachings of the church.

  • Buoys at Lake Jacksonville alarming to area resident

Far back in a cove on Byrd Branch, unbeknown except to a few adjacent homeowners, are two (tax payer funded) buoys, barely visible, in
about three ft. of water, that say "NO BOATS"!

  • Saying goodbye to area couple

A long-time friend, Doug Young, is no longer among us. He and his wife, who preceded him, were known and respected in our neighborhood around the golf course; she for her early morning walks and love of dogs; Doug for being an avid golfer with a fine-tuned sense of humor.

The Daily Progress published an Associated Press report that said Governor Rick Perry’s allegation that the illegal flow of children into the United States from Central America is a direct result of President Obama’s bad public relations policies.

  • Discarded and forgotten

Family reunions are a tradition worldwide, I suppose. I’ve read the Kennedy’s do them; I have enjoyed movies of poignant, funny, even deadly gatherings of clans both small and great.
