Editor’s Note: This is a copy of the letter mentioned above in Mr. Carnahan’s letter, sent home to JISD parents earlier this week.
You have probably heard that a very important school board election is coming up November 5th. This $22.785 million bond is to build a new West Side Elementary School and add 8 classrooms and a band hall to Nichols Intermediate School.
This bond is all about safety and classrooms. The passage of this bond will eliminate the need for portable buildings at Nichols and West Side. West Side’s 62-year-old facility would ltehn be comparable to the other JISD elementary schools.
If this school bond is successful, the average homeowner will see an increase of $5.16 a month to their tax bills. Senior homesteads will not be affected by this bond. Their school bills were frozen when they reached 65.
As time gets closer to Election Day, you will hear more details. If you have questions, please feel free to contact our JISD Administration Office at 903.586.6511.
We encourage you to learn about the bond proposal and participate in the American democratic process as you see fit.
