LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Decision ‘terribly unjust’

Jacksonville Daily Progress

JACKSONVILLE — A friend couple leased a Lake Jackson-ville lot for some weekends and holidays. They were not made aware that changes to the property had to be approved by the City Council. They made im-provements and re-ceived notice to appear before the Lake Assoc-iation.

The Lake Association unanimously recommended City Council approve the improvement. It was put on the agenda, but the Mayor announced that no individual variance request would be considered because there had been too many, which was no fault of my friends, but instead was the fault of the City whose job it is to advise lake lot lessee of the rules.

Probably a lot of the variance requests are caused by the City having failed to notified lessees of the rules.

My friends were told they would be fined $250 a day if the improvement had not been undone within so many days. It cost about $10,000 to make the improvement, and about $10,000 more to undo it.

Terribly unjust. Totally lacking in compassion.

The facts were given no consideration.

While there was still time to make a correction, I emailed the Mayor asking him to consider the facts and he refused to accept my email.

We need a new mayor, one who will fulfill his duties.
