Cherokee Cloggers end year on high note, invite others to join in
The Cherokee Cloggers have had a fun holiday season and have visited and entertained most ot the nursing homes and assisted living centers in Cherokee, Houston, and Anderson counties.
Now a decision has been made to not give beginner lessons this year so members can teach the others who have clogged together for several years a “continuing education” program.
Anyone who has had any clogging and would like to join the group is encouraged to do so. Cloggers meet in Rusk at the Community Center on Euclid Street at 5:30 until 8 p.m. every Monday and Thursday; Tuesday mornings at the Senoir Center on Kickapoo Street in Palestine at 8:30 until 11 a.m.; Thursday evenings at the First United Methodist in Grapeland from 5:30 until 8 p.m. People who work can get there as soon as they can after work.
The group has cloggers who come from Palestine, Neches, Tennessee Colony, Reklaw, Grapeland, Percilla, Rusk, Ponta, Lake Striker, Alto, Latexo, and Jacksonville.
It is never too far and the weather is never too bad to go to class. The excercise and the fellowship are worth it all.
If you are wanting to learn to clog from day one, the group will go to Waco for a workshop and they teach the eight steps of beginner clogging there. They teach the steps in the morning and after the lunch break you will be able to dance a couple of simple routines using those steps.
