Jacksonville Garden Club met at the home of Betty Hall for a meeting on March 6.

Dot Rowe, Chris Corley, Georgia Akin and Pansy Conner were co-hostesses.

President Chris Fincher called the meeting to order.

Clean up Day at Buckner Park is set for 9 a.m., March 25. Clean up and Recycle Day for Cherokee County has been set for April 12, at the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce.

The March Pilgrimage was in Tyler, were several members had lunch and attended the Tyler area standard flower show.

Pansy Conner brought the program for this meeting by going over the rules for the standard flower show that the club will be doing on April 11. Special guest for this meeting was Helen Keller. Serveral members attended the 51st annual Spring Convention held Friday, March 7, in Nacogdoches.

Jacksonville Garden Club members will also act as hostesses for the Tyler Area Council of Garden Clubs on Tuesday, April 1, at the Rose Garden in Tyler.

MOPS head steps down

What a fun day we had in MOPS (Mothers of Pre-schoolers) in February! All of the ladies split up into two groups for a very exciting game of MADGAB — a game that requires the ladies to say a phrase written on a card to try to figure out what the answer is.

We had some interesting interpretations and lots of fun! Crissy Vanderslice won the door prize of the day which was generously donated by The Sign Barn.

For the day’s devotional, we got a few Biblical tips for “the bedroom” from a book entitled “Is That All He Thinks About” by Marla Taviano. Along with those helpful hints, we got to hear a very tender-hearted testimony given by our own MOPS Coordinator Jamie McDonald, telling us of the great and powerful impact that MOPS has had on her life and all the learned experiences she’s had.

She let us know that although she loved MOPS very much and was sad to, she was going to step down as coordinator and as a MOPS member for next year. She will be missed so much! Thank you Jamie for all that you have done and for all that you do!

HAPY Girls club meet

HAPY Girls met March 8 at the Olde Country Store in Gallatin for the monthly meeting and lunch.

There were 12 members present — Margaret Hightower, Rose Mary Banks, Eve Stanfill, Veda Dietz, Lois Davis, Carol Stanfill, Christine Dove, Chris Corley, Erma Carpenter, Mary Reynolds, Charline Shattuck and Evelyn Bailes.

Rose Mary was the HAPY Birthday Girl and the hostesses were Evelyn, Margaret and Charline.

Birthday cake was made by Margaret and hostesses served each member. Everyone sang “Happy Birthday” and pictures were taken. Next meeting will be April 12. Date and location will be announced.

Career Women learn new uses for art

The Career Women’s Civic Club met at Wallwork by Judy, located at 215 S. Ragsdale St., in Jacksonville, and heard Judy Seamands present a program on picture framing, design, graphics and art.

She showed attractive displays of art, using melted crayons, called “craie on surface” and the art of using bottle corks to create trivets — both flat and elevated, for use on a serving table.

A workshop is planned for the public to create their own cork-art.

Program chairperson was Fredia Melvin.
