Locals graduate from TJC
Tyler Junior College held its spring commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, in Wagstaff Gymnasium, recognizing 570 candidates for graduation.
Associate’s degrees and certificates of proficiency were conferred by college president Dr. Mike Metke.
Presenting diplomas and certificates were members of the TJC board of trustees David Hudson, board president, as well as Lonny Uzzell, first vice president; Clint Roxburgh, second vice president; Ann Brookshire, Mike Coker, David Couch, John Hills, Dr. Joe Prud’homme and Peggy Smith.
Dr. James A. Smith, president of the TJC Alumni Association, gave the alumni salutation; and the invocation and benediction were offered by English instructor Dr. Alan Barnes.
The TJC Apache Band played the processional and recessional. The singing of the alma mater was led by Dr. Cheryl Rogers, director of institutional planning and effectiveness.
The TJC Alumni Association held a reception immediately following commencement.

Breed earns bachelor degree
The University of Missouri had announced Mack Edward Breed is a candidate for the degree of Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Nutrition and Fitness.
Commencement exercises will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Hearnes Center, Columbia Missouri.
Mack Breed is the grandson of the late Mr. James Cannon Sr. and Mrs. Lois Cannon Coleman. His parents are Dr. Felecia Ann Cannon Breed and Steve Breed who resides in San Antonio. Dr. Felecia Cannon Breed is a 1976 graduate of Jacksonville High School.
