Morris, Slates unite in marriage

Carol Ann Temple Morris and Michael Lynn Slates were married Saturday, June 7 at The Canterbury Chapel in North Canton, Ohio. The Rev. Fred Bosnakovic officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Carolyn and George Samko of North Canton, Ohio, and the granddaughter of the late Thomas J. and Martha Rose Kent of Cassopolis, Mich.

The groom is the son of Ronald and Oneida Slates of Carrollton, Ohio, and the grandson of the late Donald Slates; and Mary Jane and Grant Rutledge of Scio, Ohio, and the late Cora and O’Neil Smith.

The groom is a 1981 graduate of Carrollton High School, Carrollton, Ohio, and is Superintendent of Maintenance at Canton Drop Forge in Ohio.

The bride is a 1984 graduate of Jacksonville High School and is also employed in the MIS Department at Canton Drop Forge.

Candle lighters were the bride’s aunt and uncle, Betty and Terry McKenzie of Cassopolis, Mich.; sister-in-law of the groom, Wendy Slates of Scio; and brother-in-law of the groom, Kevin Kohler of Minerva, Ohio.

Mothers of the couple lit the unity candle before the ceremony.

The bride was escorted down the aisle to “Canon in D” and given in marriage by her father. She wore a white strapless satin corset gown with apple red beaded lace detail; pick up skirt and apple lace up back with a chapel length train. She wore a two-tiered elbow length veil with apple corded edge, accented with red crystals and a matching Garden Bouquet tiara, necklace and earrings accented with Swarovski crystals and pearls. She carried a white silk calla lily bride’s bouquet braided with beautiful white organza and satin ribbon, tied with a red ribbon.

Matron of honor was her mother, Carolyn Samko. Flower girl was her daughter, Carlie Morris. Bridesmaids were Dawn Bunnell of Canton, Ohio, a close friend of couple; and sister of the groom, Sandy Kohler of Minerva, Ohio.

Best man was brother of the groom, Stephen Slates of Scio. Groomsmen were lifelong friends Pete Morsheiser of Carrollton, Larry McGonagle of Beloit and Bryan Bunnell of Canton, Ohio.

The matron of honor wore an apple sleeveless satin v-neck dress with slim skirt and bridesmaids wore apple strapless satin ball gowns with side ruching and beaded bodice. Each carried white calla lily bouquets braided with white organza and satin ribbon.

Her daughter wore a white satin princess A-line gown with spaghetti straps and apple lace up back, band, hem and bow sash and carried the flower girl basket and wedding rings and scattered red rose petals.

The groom wore full dress black tails with white pique vest, shirt and bowtie accented by an apple pocket square and single mini white calla lily on the lapel. Groomsmen wore black tuxes with apple herringbone vest, euro tie, pocket square and single mini white calla lily on the lapel.

A memorial candle was lit by the groom for those family members no longer with the couple. “Now That I found You” by Terri Clark was played as the couple lit the unity candle.

A reception was held after the wedding ceremony at The 356th Fighter Group facility in North Canton, Ohio.

Following a honeymoon in Surfside Beach, S.C., the couple resides in North Canton, Ohio.
