Don Angle speaks to GFWC/TFWC board

The GFWC/TFWC District Board Meeting was held Sept. 26 at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. The convention was hosted by the Jacksonville Wednesday Study Club.

Ten clubs were represented and 38 members were present. After the business meeting and breakfast of a variety of sweet breads, coffee and juice, the group was entertained with a program by Don Angle (pictured).

Mr. Angle is president of the Harris County Beekeepers Association. He explained the importance of bees to our diet. About one third of our diet is dependent on the pollination of bees. He showed the different parts of a bee box and showed how the honey is taken from the hive.

When taking honey from the hive beekeepers wear white clothes and Mr. Angle demonstrated. the type of clothing worn for protection. Honeybees are not aggressive and usually won't sting unless agitated. He explained the different kinds of bees in a hive, what their jobs are and how they control heating and cooling in the hive. Honeybees are fascinating insects and the group of ladies was thoroughly entertained with Mr. Angle's interesting program.

After the business meeting and program, the group moved to the home of Joe and Judy Angle for activities and a luncheon served on their beautiful lawn.

Door prizes were given and awards were presented for decorated garden hats. The theme for the event centered around bees and judging was for most beautiful hats, best theme related hats, vintage and funniest hats.

It was a fun-filled day for all, but mostly for the hosting club, The Wednesday Study Club.
