Make Plans for An Explosive Fourth: Events scheduled all around Cherokee County

CHEROKEE COUNTY —  Every year families gather together on the Fourth of July to celebrate America’s independence and take part in traditions like fireworks and apple pie. East Texas is no different as several towns have celebrations and events in place that families can share and take part in.

Bullard

 Bullard celebrated early on June 28. The Blast Over Bullard fireworks show began at 7 p.m. behind the Bullard High School Field House.

Jacksonville

 In Jacksonville, there will be a fireworks display and family fun day at Lake Jacksonville. The action begins at 10 a.m. with a flotilla of decorated boats that on parade around the lake. It will last for an hour and is open to any boater who wants to participate. For more information on how to join in the parade, contact Bev Lewis with the Lake Jacksonville Association at 903-721-0312. There will also be a firework display at the lake beginning at 9 p.m. that is free and open to the public.

 Also in Jacksonville is the second annual Muddin’ For The Military event which will take place from July 4-7 at River Run ATV Park. Gates will open at 8 a.m. on July 4th. Events for the four-day event include raffles, a truck mud bog, ATV races, silent auctions, music from Taylor Heard and fireworks. Texas country/red dirt music fixture Brandon Rhyder will perform July 4 at River Run ATV Park. Rhyder is known for such work as "Haggard" from That's Just Me.

Rusk

In Rusk, the Texas State Railroad will have a fireworks show at the Rusk depot which is free and open to the public. It is scheduled to begin at 9:15 p.m. There will also be a special evening train called The Firecracker Special that begins at 7 p.m. It will include a barbecue dinner with the train ride and will be back to the depot for the fireworks display.

The Rotary Club of Rusk will be hosting the annual 4th of July parade in downtown Rusk July 4.

You're invited to assemble at  9 a.m.  on the courthouse lawn for the opening program with the parade to start after the program.

All veterans are invited to attend and participate in the day's events. They will ride in the parade in vehicles from Tom and Jan Townsend's Toyland military vehicles.

Bill McRae Ford will provide some cars for dignitaries to ride in the parade.

The 5th annual Gauge Lankford Memorial Fire-man's Competition will follow the parade.

There will be giveaways, just make sure to pick up your FREE raffle ticket from a Rotarian that morning.
