46-year-old admits sex assault of teen

A Jacksonville man was arrested Monday afternoon for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl, after confessing the crime to investigators. The Jacksonville Police Department began investigating Otis Taylor Jr. on Saturday, when the alleged victim first reported the assault.

“According to the victim, Mr. Taylor had been asked by the girl’s mother to check in on her while the mother was out of town with relatives. He came into the bedroom while she was laying on the bed sending text messages on her phone, and he laid down beside her on the bed,” Detective Tonya Sonntag said. “While the victim and the suspect disagree on what exactly happened, following several conversations with me he did admit to sexually assaulting her.”

The crime reportedly occurred about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, and the arrest was made at 4:10 p.m. Monday.

Immediately following the sexual assault, the victim contacted her mother who in turn called JPD. The victim was administered a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner kit, and the DNA evidence was sent to the Department of Public Safety lab in Garland.

Taylor, 46, has no prior criminal record with the department. He was arraigned Tuesday morning, and his bond for the charge of sexual assault of a child was set at $25,000.
