County considers setting speed limit on CR 3504

The Commissioners’ Court of Cherokee County will meet Monday morning inside the county courthouse for their second regularly scheduled meeting of June. The court faces a full 13-item agenda, but none of the topics are expected to require too much of the commissioners’ time.

Action will be considered to set a speed limit of 35 mph on County Road 3504. The default speed limit on county roads without posted signage is 60 mph. It is not scheduled for Monday’s meeting, but a public hearing will need to be held before the new limit can be set.

The county went through a similar process in February when several residents of CR 1616 requested and were granted a 35 mph speed limit on that road.

Other agenda items include:

• considering laying utility lines in each precinct;

• the monthly report from Eddie Lee, constable for Precinct 3;

• considering bids for crushed rock for one or more precincts;

• approval of the annual road report for Precinct 3;

• approval of continuing education units for one or more commissioners;

• approval of an agreement between the Cherokee County Health Department and Tyler Open MRI;

• approval of one or more constables to apply for the Justice Assistance Grant in order to acquire new camera systems for their vehicles;

• approval of memorandums of understanding from Cherokee County and the beneficiary entities in the 2008 Texas Community Development Block Grant program;

• approval for Precinct 2 to assist TxDOT and Alto ISD by delivering road material for a road extension project on CR 2429;

• approval for Linda Little, county tax assessor/collector, to issue a tax refund of $500 or more;

• approval of a Phase Two Hidden Acres subdivision plat; and

• paying the bills.

The Cherokee County Commissioner’s Court regularly meets at 10 a.m. the second and fourth Monday of each month, at the county courthouse. The public is invited to attend all meetings.
