Editor faces DWI charge

A weekend traffic stop resulted in the arrest of Jacksonville Daily Progress Editor Richard Nelson.

According to a Cherokee County Sheriff Department arrest report, Nelson, 44, of Jacksonville was charged with driving while intoxicated - third offense or more after his vehicle was stopped by a Department of Public Safety officer about 10:50 p.m. Friday, July 3.

However, the report does not give any additional arrest details, including the location of the traffic stop. A DPS spokesperson said Wednesday the arresting officer’s report was not available.

Nelson has served as the newspaper’s editor since October 2007.

The Cherokee County report also states that Nelson was released on a $10,000 bond Saturday morning.

In addition the following arrests were made by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Public Safety for the period of June 23 through July 5 .

• Todd D. Blackshire, 31, parole violation. No bond was offered and he is being held.

• Tiffany Daniels, 29, three counts of injury to child, elderly or disabled with intent of bodily injury. Bonds were set at $7,500 for each charge.

• Anthony R. Delanly Jr., 44, criminal nonsupport. Bond was set at $2,500 and he is being held.

• Joshua W. Gill, 29, reckless injury to child, elderly or disabled. Bond was set at $25,000 and he is being held.

• Tonya L. Gill, 29, child endangerment. Bond was set at $10,000 and she is being held.

• Steve M. Kennedy, 44, public intoxication and resisting arrest. Bond was set at $1,500 and a fine was set at $305.

• Jessie D. Loven, 20, arson and insurance fraud. Bond was set at $25,000 and $10,000 and he is being held.

• Zachary J. Lowrey, 20, theft and driving without a seatbelt. Bond was set at $750 and a fine was set at $277.

• Esoras I. Lux, 17, public intoxication. A fine was set at $305.

• Buddy N. Matheny, 29, evading arrest detention with a vehicle. Bond was set at $7,500.

• Alan S. McCoy, 23, theft. Bond was set at $750.

• Shannon L. McElfresh, 28, public intoxication. A fine was set at $350 and he is being held.

• Anthony D. Pierce, 24, stalking, no valid registration on trailer, driving without a license, failure to report change of address, seat belt violation and two failures to appear. Bond was set at $100,000 and fines were set at $180, $250, $330, $180, $330 and $205. He is being held.

• Axel O. Rico Sandoval, 19, public intoxication. A fine was set at $300.

• David P. Sandoval, 24, public intoxication. A fine was set at $305 and he is being held.

• Kathy M. Turner, 40, projecting white light out of rear of vehicle and driving without a license. Fines were set at $170 and $120.

• Gustavo M. Valadez, 23, public intoxication. A fine was set at $300.

• Charles Lewis Hedrick, 70 of Frankston, disorderly conduct. Paid $150 fine.

• Maitie Chevonne Hedricks, 25 of Jacksonville, theft by check. A bond was set at $750.

• Gustavo Vasquez Mendez, 23 of Jacksonville, traffic misc. no DL, failed to yield right of way, drove left of center. Paid fines of $170, $160 and $165 respectively

• Josh Roberto Pardo, 23 of Palestine, traffic violations. Fines of $170 and $150.

• Joseph Anthony Pope, 38 of Jacksonville, violation of protect order bias/prejudice held on $25,000 bond, assault causes bodily injury family violence held on $15,000 bond.

• Randy L. Session, 27 of Rusk, disorderly conduct. Real time served for fine of $165.

• David S. Stone, 31 of Wells, Criminal mischief, greater than $1500 less than $20,000. Released on bond of $2500.

• Jonathan D. Waggoner, 30 of Rusk, expired registration, time served for fine of $195.

• Ivory L. Wells, 39 of Alto, no locals, traffic misc. held.

The following arrests were made by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Public Safety for the period of June 16 through June 22.

• Raven D. Brown, 24, theft. Bond was set at $500.

• David K. Dotson, 26, public intoxication. A fine was set at $310.

• Benny R. Garner, 47, theft. Bond was set at $500.

• Bryan H. Jones, 39, probation violation. No bond was offered and he is being held.

• Louis R. Loving Jr., 24, public intoxication. A fine was set at $310.

• Sergion E. Mackly, 28, unauthorized use of vehicle. A bond was set at $2,000.

• Anthony D. Pierce, 24, two counts of harassment. Bond was set at $1,500 for each count.

• Jerry Walding Jr., 21, credit or debit card abuse. Bond was set at $2,500.

• Jason L. Wolf, 32, disorderly conduct. A fine was set at $310.
