New Summerfield water-boil notice finally canceled

By Cristin Ross

New Summerfield residents no longer have to boil their water before consuming it.

City officials reported the city’s boil-water notice was lifted Friday by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

“By all reports the water is fine,” New Summerfield City Secretary Teresa McCutcheon said. “We want to thank our customers for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience these issues may have caused them.”

TCEQ officials required the city to post the boil-water notice in mid-July after Well No. 2 experienced electrical problems and failed.

Numerous water customers lost service during the weekend of July 12-13 when the problems were first reported. Water service was restored to residents during that weekend and city employees continued to work to repair the well.

New Summerfield Mayor Dan Stallings reported to council members during a special council meeting held Aug. 18 the well had been fully repaired and reprogrammed.

“Everything’s up to snuff,” Stallings said.

Improvements made to the city’s wells include new, larger pumps for increased capacity and new electronic controls.

Stallings warned some customers may experience water outages over the next week to 10 days as city workers begin assembly and installation of the newest leg of water line.

The half-mile of 6-inch line will increase water delivery and pressure to customers on the east side of town.
