County changes software system

The Cherokee County Commissioners’ Court voted Monday to utilize technology funds to make the switch to the NetData software system. The court also approved upgrading two computer monitors for Justice of the Peace Precinct 3.

Commissioners voted unanimously on the measure, which didn’t include an export package which would allow data to be sent directly from the judge’s office to attorneys’ offices.

Other action taken during the regular bi-monthly morning meeting include:

• Approval to boom-ax Haws Road in New Summerfield.

• Consideration of bids for annual fuel requirements. Bids from both Jacksonville and Tyler were accepted after some discussion.

• Consider annual “buy-back” provision and purchase of new Mack dump trucks through buy board. This was approved.

• Budget amendment approval for the budget beginning in Oct. 1, 2009. Amendments here include funds for a court reporter. Precinct 3 Commissioner Katherine Pinotti voted against the amendments.

• Adoption of Constables Precincts 1, 2, 3 and 4 to use their privately owned or leased vehicles for the use of law enforcement purposes under Section 170.001, Local Government Code/SB 1831. The reasoning behind this measure was to keep an undesirable vehicle from representing county government officials and authorities.

• The 2010 Cherokee County Resolution Indigent Defense Grant was approved unanimously.

• Two appointments were approved for nominations to the Cherokee County Appraisal District Board of Directors. These are two year terms and nominations will have to be returned by Oct. 15. County Judge Chris Davis made the motion to appoint John Mark Lester and Tammy Treadwell to the positions. “We’ve got some good people on there at present,” he said. Katherine Pinotti opposed the motion, but it passed.

• Approval of the consent agenda, including Approval of Ricky Moore’s license and weight monthly report, approval of Lynn Kelley’s Constable Precinct 1 monthly report, approval to change the date of Commissioners’ Court on Oct. 12 to Tuesday, Oct. 13 for holiday purposes and authorizing the payment of bills.

It was a relatively fast meeting with an average of light discussion on each presented agenda item. The county commissioners adjourned around 20 minutes after the meeting began.
