Quilt show and sale open for entries

Get out the needles and dust off the fat quarters, it’s time for the Rusk Pioneer and Heritage Festival’s third annual quilt show and sale.

Local quilters and quilt fans are invited to enter their favorite quilts in the show and share the unique provenance behind them. Entries will be shown through the annual Rusk Pioneer and Heritage Festival on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Texas State Railroad park.

“Just about everyone has a story about a quilt they made or have,” event organizer Sandra Sanders said. “With all those stories and memories attached to them, quilts and quilting clearly still means so much to so many.”

Sanders said the show isn’t judged beyond a People’s Choice category.

“It’s just a nice way to show off something a quilter spent a lot of time on, or a treasured heirloom that has a nice history,” Sanders said.

All quilts entered in the show must be handmade. Quilts of any size are welcome, and each entry will be shown in a manner that protects the quilts.

“I treat them as if they were my own heirlooms,” Sanders said.

Pick up a quilt show entry form at the Rusk Chamber of Commerce, 415 N. Main St., or at the Whistle Stop gift shop on E. Fifth St., in downtown Rusk. Participants who enter quilts in the show can bring them to the show at the park the morning of Oct. 11.

Anyone interested in selling quilts in conjunction with the show can call Sanders at 903-683-8190 to reserve space.
