York announces bid for Precinct 2 commissioner

Special to the Progress

Steve York has announced his intention to seek nomination on the Republican ticket for Precinct 2 Cherokee County commissioner in the March 2010 primary.

“I have been a citizen of Cherokee County for nearly 30 years,” York said. “We need some help on our roads. We’re not getting enough action out of our current seat. We used to get more recognition in the community.”

York is a longtime employee of the Texas Department of Health Services at Rusk State Hospital. He is currently motor pool supervisor at RSH and has been in the maintenance department for more than 20 years.

“I will bring my experience in my current position along with almost 20 years of management in the major supermarkets to help benefit our community,” he said.

York is 56, and is married to Elizabeth Ann York. They have three daughters and one son — Carla, Sandi, Jenny and James — and five grandchildren — Shawn, Kelly, Amber, Anna and Zachary.
