The United Fund of Cherokee County is gearing up for their fundraising year by setting a goal to raise $119,000 to support 18 area non-profit agencies, including programs for youth, battered women, the hungry, the poor and more.
Last year the fund raised about $117,500.
Representatives from various agencies attended the annual budget meeting and met with officers and directors of the United Fund.
The organization president, Greg Wade, presided at the hearing at Norman Activity Center in Jacksonville.
Funds will be dispersed early in 2014 pending the completion of a successful fundraising campaign.
The fundraising campaign will begin in early September with workers participating in four divisions. Jorge Aragon will serve as this year's campaign chairman.
Agencies who requested funding include:
Allocations include HOPE (Helping Others Pursue Enrichment), $24,000; Good Samaritan in Rusk, $2,500; Cherokee County Child & Family Services, $13,500; Christmas Cheer, $5,000; Eagles Nest (youth center), $5,500.
Gateway Community Partners, $12,000; Court Appointed Special Advocates, $2,000; Cherokee County Crisis Center, $15,500; Boy Scouts, $5,000; ACCESS, $1,000; Clothes Closet & More, $2,000; Red Cross, $4,500.
Girl Scouts, $1,100; Meals on Wheels, $8,000; Salvation Army, 3,500; Jacksonville Literacy Council, $4,500; Living Alternatives, $2,000; East Texas Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse, $1,000; and campaign expenses, $6,400.
Officers and directors attending were Wade, Anita Snyder, Deenda Etheridge, Mehlenbacher, Brittany Traylor, Randy Gorham, Brett Brewer, Robert Gonzalez, Larry Long, Phil Caron, Wayne Cessna and Betty Ewalt.
