Update: Names of four men killed in Saturday’s 3-vehicle accident released

NEW SUMMERFIELD — Authorities have released more information regarding a three-vehicle accident near County Road 1409 that killed four men Saturday morning and closed a large portion of the road for hours.

A report submitted by Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Chaney Wade indicates the 7:56 a.m. accident along US 79 took place 1.4 miles south of New Summerfield .

A 2009 Chevrolet Impala driven by Michael Estrada was southbound on 79 when it crossed into ongoing traffic, striking a 2000 GMC Blazer driven by Luis Ramirez of Jacksonville. Estrada's vehicle then continued southbound and struck a truck tractor semi trailer driven by Billy Wilder of Henderson, according to accounts.

The four deceased were in the Impala and included Estrada, 24, of Palestine; Christian Chavez, 24, of Palestine; Jaime Benitez, 24, of Palestine, and Saul Mancera, 22 of Palestine.

All were pronounced dead at the scene by Cherokee County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Judge Tony Johnson.
