BULLARD — The deadline for online registration for “Strides for Excellence,” the Bullard Education Foundation's 5k and Fun Run event, is midnight April 18.

The third annual event begins 9 a.m. April 20 at the local high school and features a traditional 5k run and a one mile walk/run that has fun obstacles for families to conquer, said organizers.

Participants can register online by midnight, April 18, at www.active.com, while the April 20 race day registration starts at 7:30 a.m. at the school.

Costs are $25 per individual in the 5k event; $18 for an individual in the one-mile event;  $80 for a Super Family fee and $60 for a Family Fun fee. Non-participants may purchase a $15 spirit shirt showing their support of the event.

This year's 5k and Fun Run also will feature a number of different booths, as well as an opportunity to win a brand new Toyota Tundra pick-up donated by Classic Toyota of Tyler. Drawing tickets will be distributed as part of the registration fee, as well as sold individually.

Proceeds benefit Bullard schools.

The non-profit foundation was created five years ago and is funded completely by donations, with volunteers serving on the board.

It began awarding grants four years ago and has distributed $140,000 to date. During the current school year, 20 grants totaling $38,900 in grant money were distributed to teaching staff at the different BISD campuses.
