SUGAR LAND —
Rusk's Sydney Littlejohn and Troup Lady Tiger Katelyn Standley will get to end their respective high school softball careers by playing on McCombs Field at the University of Texas-Austin after all.
Both young ladies, who are seniors, were selected this week to play in the July 12 Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star Game.
They will compete for the Red Team (Class 1A-3A), which will be guided by Weimar's Roger Maupin and Landon Winton of Lubbock Cooper.
Littlejohn, who will continue her softball career at the University of Alabama later this summer, ended the season with a gaudy 0.47 earned run average. She whiffed 317 batters in 178 innings of duty in the circle while walking only 20.
Littlejohn also got the job done with the bat as she hit .442 while lifting three home runs and amassing 28 RBI. She also clubbed out a dozen doubles for head coach Ashley Renner's Lady Eagles.
Standley, a Stephen F. Austin State University signee, led Troup with a .550 batting average.
She stroked nine round trippers while driving in 52 runs in 39 games.
She accounted for eight of her team's triples and 14 doubles.
Standley is a catcher.
“This is our (Troup High School's) very first all-star; another first in Troup softball history,” Troup head softball coach Sam Weeks said. “I can't tell everyone how very proud I am of 'K-RO', she (has) worked so hard playing here for us and their couldn't be a better representative for us.”
