Bullard Education Foundation sets record with event

BULLARD — The Bullard Education Foundation hosted its 4th annual 5K /Fun Run, “Strides for Excellence” on Saturday morning, April 19.

This year was a first for the Color Run theme which was an instant success as not only a fundraiser but as a fun and family oriented community event.

Initial estimates show approximately $16,000 in funds raised which all go directly back to benefitting the students and staff of Bullard ISD.

With more than 300 participants and perfect weather, the community enjoyed a great day of fitness, fun and of course, color.

The Color Run 5K runners enjoyed a route that took them by every campus in Bullard ISD and included obstacles along the way as they were doused by various shades of color.

Also new this year was the help of Mrs. Goode’s 8th grade English classes from Bullard Middle School.  As part of a grant they received last year from the Foundation to conduct a community service project, they participated in all aspects of planning, marketing, setting up and working the event.  “It was a wonderful project-based learning opportunity for the students while at the same time they were active participants in a real-world community fundraiser,” stated Mrs. Goode.  Tisha White, vice-president of the Foundation remarked, “The Color Run idea was new for us, but based on the turnout and the smiles, it’s obviously been a huge success.”  Darren Davis, the Foundation’s President stated, “We have multiple goals of raising money for the Foundation’s mission while at the same time providing an event the community and families can come out and enjoy, I definitely think we accomplished the mission.”
