The cities of Rusk and Jacksonville will dispose of residents' cut Christmas trees as part of its curbside garbage service, officials said.
Live whole, smaller trees or larger, cut up trees are disposed of as part of the regular brush pick up service in Rusk, according to a city hall employee, but residents also can contact city hall at 903-683-2213 to arrange pick up.
“We just ask that if it is left curbside, that it doesn't block the road,” she said.
Up until several years ago, the city of Jacksonville arranged post-holiday drop sites for old trees, “but there was just no response to it,” said Public Works Director Will Cole.
Residents are advised to place their dead trees alongside their regular garbage on regular pick up days. Because these are headed to the landfill, there is no need to clean the trees, Cole said.
“If we were to reuse them as habitat for the lake, they'd have to be totally clean,” he explained.
Artificial trees also may be left for curbside garbage pick up in Jacksonville.
