Jacksonville City Council set to revisit parking issue

JACKSONVILLE — The Jackson-ville City Council will meet at 6 p.m. today for its regular meeting at the Norman Center.

The issue of parking along streets near Jacksonville High School is back on the council's agenda. The action item was tabled during the January meeting.

According to City Manager Mo Raissi, after speaking further with school officials on the concern, the school plans to send representation to the meeting.

Raissi said Monday afternoon he hopes the city and school district can work together to find a solution to the parking concerns.

City council members will meet in executive session beforehand at 5 p.m. to hear a Jacksonville Economic Development Corpor-ation presentation on affordable housing projects and to discuss real property.

If necessary, action on executive session items will be taken at the beginning of the regular meeting.

Other items on the agenda include:

•A public hearing for a zoning request change from commercial to wholesale, warehouse and manufacturing district for property on East Rusk Street;

• Consider approval of resolutions in support of proposed affordable housing projects;

• Consideration of an ordinance to vacate Milam Street and portions of surrounding alleyways;

• Consideration of an ordinance amending sections of sanitation ordinances;

• Consideration of a resolution accepting the street drainage improvement project on Cherry Street and establish the warrant period;

• Consideration of a resolution calling for the General Election of the City of Jacksonville;

• Consideration of approval for a joint election agreement between the city and JISD; and

• Consideration of approval of appointments to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
