Two-story house destroyed by fire

JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville firefighters responded to a house fire Tuesday night in the 100 block of Lloyd Street.

Jacksonville Fire Chief Brent Smith said the blaze was reported just before 10 p.m., with the two-story home was a total loss.

Crews had the fire under control a little after 11 p.m., but stayed at the location overnight for “extensive salvation and overhaul operations,” Smith said.

Smith added he was proud of the job firefighters did to keep surrounding property safe.

“When they arrived, they encountered heavy fire conditions but made an excellent stop on the fire, thus preventing any damage to nearby properties,” he said.

One person was transported to an area hospital, however Smith said it was for non-fire related

reasons.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
