Rusk Chamber names 100-year-old man as ‘Citizen of the Year’ during banquet

RUSK — Houston White was the Rusk Citizen of the Year Jan. 25 during the 73rd annual Chamber of Commerce banquet, held at Rusk Junior High.

Incoming Chamber president Kay “Baby” Epperson – who received the citizen of the year last year – presented White the award as some 200-plus attendees watched on.

White, 100, is a charter member of the local Rotary Club, for which he was instrumental in helping found, and has had a long-time involvement with the local chamber.

Also during the banquet, Gene Brown was named 2013 Business Man of the Year, while Barbara Click of Barb's Too was named the Rusk Chamber's 2013 Business Woman of the Year.

Brookshire Brothers Grocery was recipient of this year's  Business of the Year award.

Other special honorees recognized during the Chamber banquet were Larry Sinclair, who received the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award, and Chamber event coordinator Connie Parsons, who received the 2013

Presidents Award.
