Applications for a tuition-based pre-K program at Bullard Primary School will be accepted on March 3 on a first-come, first-served basis.
According to school receptionist Gaylynn Glass, the program – now in its second year – is a popular one for parents because “we're cheaper than the local day care program and children are getting an education from certified teachers who use a set curriculum.”
Parents requested the district offer a tuition-based program to serve families of children not eligible for Headstart or income-based pre-school, she said.
“There had been a high demand for us to offer a regular program for the general public, so we decided to offer this last year, and it went really well,” Glass said. “We filled that first class with 18 kids, and didn't have a scheduled wait list.”
Students must be four years old on or before Sept. 1, 2014, to be eligible for the class.
The 2014-2015 tuition rate is $4,000 payable in monthly installments. A $100 application fee will be used toward the first month's tuition.
Parents must sign a contract for participation; as part of the application packet, they must also provide proof of residency and their child's birth certificate, shot record and Social Security card, as well their own personal ID.
