The annual Taste of Jacksonville was held recently and this year’s event was crowned with a new award from the FitCOUNTY Cherokee Coalition. The group challenged food vendors planning to attend, to post nutritional content of their food at the event for consumers to see – fulfilling the mission of empowering citizens to live healthy lifestyles.
After the last dollop of deliciousness was served, it was Chili’s of Jacksonville that came out on top, posting their menu and nutritional information as challenged. “It was easy to do,” Culinary Manager Shawn Gowin told Christopher Taylor, chair of the FitCOUNTY coalition.
“We thought we would try something new, and encouraging businesses to educate their consumers is always a win-win situation” Taylor said. “We were proud to see Chili’s step up to the challenge.” The coalition hopes to incorporate more challenges like these during area events and activities.
