No charges have been filed with the JISD police department in an incident involving a physical ed instructor alleged to have repeatedly hit a student on the leg with a ball during a recent volleyball practice, said Superinten-dent Dr. Joe Wardell.
“We have investigated (the incident), and as far as we're concerned, the matter is closed,” he said.
The child's mother contacted the district early last week after her child came home with a swollen leg, explaining to her about the incident in her P.E. class, he said.
However, because it is considered a personnel matter, the district cannot discuss what action was taken against the employee.
Legally, “we're limited on what we can say,” Dr. Wardell said.
“But we take all measures to ensure that students are safe under any condition, and anytime a concern is expressed, we investigate and deal with things at whatever levels that need to be taken,” he said.
The identity of the child, who is a minor, is being withheld as a matter of Jacksonville Daily Progress policy, which does not publicize names of minors.
