County to hear request for road program

CHEROKEE COUNTY —  A county road beautification program recently adopted by Cherokee County Commissioners has yielded its first request: On Monday, Petty Estate Homeowners will ask commissioners' permission to adopt a portion of County Road 3504 during the court's regular session.

The “Adopt a County Road Program” is offered through the Texas Department of Transportation, which launched an Adopt-A-Highway program in 1985.

At the urging of Pct. 3 Commissioner Katherine Pinotti, the local court embraced the program by casting a unanimous vote in support of it during a Feb. 10 meeting.

Along with the homeowners' request, commissioners also will address the following agenda items during Monday's meeting:

• Consider approval of Pct. 2 to assist Caddo Mounds on handicapped parking space;

• Consider permission for Pct. 3 to sell two Mack dump trucks to East Texas Mack under a Buyback agreement, then consider permission for the precinct to purchase two new Mack dump trucks from East Texas Mack through BuyBoard;

• Consider approval of E-File Texas Payment process; and

• Consider approval of minutes of prior commissioners' court meetings, a monthly report by Pct. 4 Constable Jamie Beene, and authorize payment of bills, payroll and transfer of funds.
