An electrical short in a copy machine at a business in the 1700 block of South Jackson Thursday morning startled some patrons, but ultimately injured no one.
However, there was some initial drama that may have indicated otherwise before firefighters arrived on the scene of Western Finance, 1734 S. Jackson, about 11:30 a.m., reports show.
“The call came out right before lunch about a copy machine being overheated,” explained Jacksonville Fire Department Capt. Randy Ragsdale “It just happened all of a sudden. It was an electrical outlet in the wall. Some wiring conduct had shorted out.”
There was some smoke, but no major fire at all, the captain said.
“It just got hot and shorted out the plug and burned up their copy machine,” he said. “It ruined it. We turned the breakers off and disconnected the outlet and pulled it out of the wall. We checked the wall with our thermal imaging camera to make sure there was no fire anywhere else.”
The company will need to investigate to determine the cause of the short, the captain added.
