Two women involved in an altercation March 28 on the campus of the local elementary school each received Class C misdemeanors.
Tiffany Latrece Lydia, 27, and LaTonya Yvette Jasper, 29, were cited for disorderly conduct by fighting and criminal trespass, according to a report filed by the Troup Police Department.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday, an officer was dispatched to the Troup Elementary School campus, where two women – previously engaged in a physical altercation – had been separated by school officials, the report states.
While it is unclear how the fight initiated, witnesses told police that both subjects were involved.
Superintendent Stuart Bird said the incident took place about the time school was being dismissed for the Easter holiday when the two “got into it” while standing in the entry way of the school.
The school's principal immediately enacted a Code Red lockdown, securing the campus, and contacted police, he said.
While the lockdown was short-lived, Bird praised school officials for a smooth execution of the security process, saying “they all did a good job, and the kids never were in any danger because there were no weapons involved. Fortunately, nobody was hurt.”
Bird said that while the incident was “uncommon,” he noted that “it does happen periodically,” usually at sporting events, but that Thursday's incident “would be the exception, in my experience as an educator.”
According to the superintendent, “there will be some restrictions to (the women's) access to school property.”
