Wells City Hall burglars caught by authorities

CHEROKEE COUNTY — Two men accused of smashing out the glass front door to Wells City Hall and stealing cash, checks and money orders during a November burglary were recently located and captured.

William Todd Pounds, 47, and Joshua Kerry Rains, 27, both of Wells, were taken into custody  April 5 at Pounds' residence, also in Wells. Rains lives in Lufkin, according to his driver's license.

Each was arrested by Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputies in connection with a charge of Burglary of a Building, a state jail felony offense.

During the investigation of the Nov. 26 burglary, investigators discovered that the contents of city hall had been damaged by the burglary.

State jail felony offenses are punishable by confinement in a state jail facility for up to two years and a $10,000 fine.
