Jacksonville Goodwill store manager Nikki Pryor, second from right, presents Fred Douglass instructional strategist Melinda Moran with a $1,140 check on behalf of the local business, which has donated a portion of its sales from this year's Tax-free Weekend, Aug. 9-11. According to assistant store manager Katie Shipley, 16 stores that comprise the local Goodwill district took part in the event as a way to give back to the community. “We are a community-based organization (who can't operate without) the public's help, so we want to give back, and feel that the best way to do that is to give to the school kids,” Shipley said.
The funds will be split among JISD's four elementary campuses, which include East Side, West Side, Joe Wright and Fred Douglass.
With Moran and Pryor are East Side principal Jodi Alderete, right, and Shipley, left.
