Progress Report: Local woman earned master’s degree; returns home to Jacksonville College

JACKSONVILLE —

Kaley Lybrand of Jacksonville received a master of arts degree in communication from Dallas Baptist University on Aug. 9.

She was graduated from Dallas Baptist in December 2011 with bachelor of science degree and from Jacksonville College in December 2009 with Associate of Science degree. She attended JC as a third-generation student after high school and currently works as a third-generation employee at the college.

Lybrand is the daughter of Phillip and Jan Lybrand of Jacksonville. Included in her family's legacy are sister Kelsey Lybrand, who graduated from Jacksonville College in May 2013 with an Associate of Science degree, and brother Kevin Lybrand, who began his freshman year at Jacksonville College this fall and plays on the men's basketball team.

Kaley began working part-time at Jacksonville College in January and switched to full-time in July.

She currently serves as administrative assistant to the academic dean and teaches the sophomore-level Capstone course.

Kaley worked at Dallas Baptist University in the provosts’ office before moving back home to work at Jacksonville College.

"I had no reason to leave Dallas Baptist other than God calling me back home to Jacksonville for this administrative position," she said. "His timing is impeccable, and not once have I regretted the decision to work at Jacksonville College. I've experienced some hardships, especially with finishing my master's degree through the summer (which included weekly trips to Dallas), but the rewards have been astounding and I can truly say that it has been worth it all.

"I'm excited to be a part of JC during this time because the school is growing and we're developing new changes at a fast pace. I credit DBU for giving me a background in the areas of academics and institutional effectiveness because God has used that knowledge to contribute new ideas to JC."
