The Jacksonville City Council took about 30 minutes Monday to canvass mayoral election results and unanimously approve recommendations from the Planning and Zoning Committee.
In a special meeting held at noon on Monday, the Council canvassed and approved the results of the June 11 run-off election, legally certifying results as 586 votes for Kenneth Melvin and 510 votes for challenger Rob Gowin.
In other business, the Council unanimously approved recommendations from the Planning and Zoning Committee, including:
* A preliminary plat for an 18-lot subdivision at Lakeshore Drive and Byrd Road.
* A zone change from single family dwelling to "planned development" for school use.
Jacksonville College has property designated as part of their "master plan" for the college to accommodate expansion.
"A master plan gives the college the appropriate zoning for what they need without having to come to Planning and Zoning for each request," City Manager Mo Raissi explained.
A new dormitory will probably be the first project the school undertakes.
* A zone change from planned development to "one-and-two family dwel-ling" for properties formerly owned by Lon Morris College and purchased by Jack Webb at auction.
* A zone change from planned development to "B-special use" permit to allow for school use by Jacksonville Independent School District.
* A public hearing for a zone-change request by CP Homes to change from multi-family high-density and manufacturing district to "special use."
This request, submitted by the Jacksonville Economic Development Corporation, would allow for a 24-unit senior living residence.
