JPD dispatcher killed in wreck

JACKSONVILLE — A dispatcher for the Jacksonville Police Department was killed Monday on her way to work, according to officials.

Amber Enge, 35, of Whitehouse was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-vehicle wreck Monday afternoon on CR 2177 in Whitehouse.

Enge had been with the JPD since July 2013. Hearts were heavy at the department Tuesday morning.

"Her death has devastated the people here, and we are all working our way through it the best we can," Chief Reece Daniel said.

Dispatcher Marian Lindsey said Enge was an "excellent dispatcher" with a heart for helping people.

"I can truly say that she was a very sweet person," Lindsey said. "She always had a smile on her face and had an outgoing personality. It's a great loss for our dispatcher family and for our police family. She fit in very well, and everybody loved her."

Enge was driving a late 60s model Mustang at the time of the wreck. Originally from California, Enge had only been driving the Mustang about a week after problems with her former vehicle, co-workers said.

Officials said it was raining at the time of the wreck. Enge's Mustang lost control on the road and hit a tree. Smith County DPS responded to the scene.

"I know where she is because I know what kind of heart she had," said Nancy Jackson, JPD administrative assistant. "She is smiling down on us right now."

Enge is survived by a 14-year-old son.
