County set to hear CR speed limit discussions

CHEROKEE COUNTY — Public hearings will be held at the beginning of Monday's 10 a.m. Cherokee County Commissioner's Court meeting regarding the setting of speed limits along two country roads located in Pct. 1.

Afterward, commissioners will consider approval of a 15 mile-per-hour limit on CR 1520 and a 35 mile-per-hour limit on CR 1510.

Similar action was taken earlier this year after residents in County Commissioner Steven Norton's precinct requested a lowered speed limit to ensure safety in an area populated by several families with small children.

Also during the meeting, commissioners will examine the abandoning, vacating or closing of CR 2402 in Pct. 2, consider bids for a used lay-down machine for Pct. 4 and consider pursuing a grant for airport improvements.

Other agenda items include:

– Consider authorizing a Tax Resale Resolution;

– Discuss/consider adoption/revision of Road & Bridge job descriptions;

– Discuss/consider change to policy manual regarding step and grade related to new hires;

– Consider approval of Commissioners' Court meeting minutes and authorizing payment of bills, payroll and transfer of funds;

– Hear presentation from the Texas Association of Counties on health and safety information; and

– Hear from the Texas AgriLife Extension Office, which will present a certificate of appreciation to the court.
