Through the generosity of The Glenda Jean Mostyn and Joe E. Moreno Educational Foundation, one Jacks-onville High School senior Katlin Lavender, was selected as the 2013 recipient of the Found-ation’s Prom Spa Day in preparation for Senior Prom.
The Glenda Jean Mostyn and Joe E. Moreno Educational Foundation supports, promotes and operates programs, projects, and collaborative efforts in Texas, primarily in Hous-ton and the greater Gulf Coast region, that serve to encourage the abilities of children.
The Foundation was created in 2006 by successful Houston trial lawyers Amber and Steve Mostyn to honor the memory of two caring and generous Texans: Glenda Jean Mostyn, mother, grandmother, sister and educator in East Texas and Texas State Representative Joe E. Moreno, son, brother, friend and legislator. Both cared very deeply about education and providing the best for children of Texas.
Prom Spa Day is an extraordinary day for girls attending a public high school in Texas.
Through a selection process set by the foundation’s board, girls are treated to a spa day at their local spa or salon where they receive hair styling, makeup, pedicure, manicure and a new outfit, including shoes and accessories, of course, to prepare girls for their senior year prom!
These girls are selected by the Board.
The student must be enrolled as a graduating senior. Parental permission and approval must be obtained for participation. Additionally the applicant must submit in writing the following information: A written recommendation on official letterhead by the district’s director or their designee that verifies services and status as a graduating senior; and in 500 words or less, the applicant (with parental assistance if needed) must state why the applicant should receive the spa day.
Katlin started her day with Salon Kalea Day Spa where she was treated to a pedicure, manicure, new hair styling and makeup which was an all afternoon experience. Upon completion of her makeover, Katlin and her guardian were given a $500 shopping spree for a new prom dress and complimenting accessories. The Foundation also paid her way to the Prom and for pictures of the memorable evening.
