CHEROKEE COUNTY — Three men face multiple drug charges following a Friday narcotics warrant search at a residence just outside the Reklaw community in eastern Cherokee County.

Johnny Ray Birdwell, 63, of Jacksonville; Brandon Wade Coats, 44 of Rusk; and Donald Ray Guinn Jr., 41, of Jackson-ville, were all arrested on suspicion of manufacture-delivery of a controlled substance greater than four grams, but less than 200, which is a first degree felony, according to a release by Cherokee Sheriff's Capt. John R. Raffield.

Birdwell, who is currently on parole for a previous felony conviction, will most likely be served with a parole violation.

Guinn was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, less than one gram, also a first degree felony, the release said.

Cherokee County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Vera Foreman set bond at $50,000 for Birdwell and Coates and cumulative bond of $75,000 for Guinn.

Birdwell – at whose residence Cherokee County Sheriff's Detect-ives Fred Butler and Michael Goff served the warrant, was the subject of a lengthy narcotics sale investigation – police reports show.

During the 3 p.m. Friday warrant search, authorities seized five ounces of crystal methamphetamine, packaging materials and other drug paraphernalia, and $1,333 in cash, according to the release.

Additionally, detectives located stolen property at the residence, which resulted in a second search warrant being obtained and executed later on the same day.

Other charges might be pending, reports show.
