Junior Joy Stricklen (inset) gives a rousing cheer as Tribe flag-bearers circle around Jacksonville High School gym, drumming up support for the Fight’n Indians at Friday’s homecoming pep rally. The team played against the Gilmer Buckeyes in a 7:30 p.m. match at the Tomato Bowl, with this year’s homecoming court introduced in a pregame ceremony.
Stricklen was one of several students dressed up in spirit gear for the event, having decorated her wheelchair as well as wearing body paint in school colors and creating shirts supporting the Fight’n Indians, saying she wanted to encourage others – especially those in wheelchairs – “that you can have fun and enjoy yourself.”

Dawntae Jones, a JHS junior, right, got into the spirit of things, dressing up in school colors in support of her beloved Fight’n Indians.
Using blue and black permanent markers, Jones decorated a pair of yellow jeans with the team’s name and a very nice rendering of the school mascot.
