Residents of Cherokee County will notice a large number of emergency vehicles and activity the morning of Dec. 1 as responders, ETMC, Trinity Mother Frances-Jacksonville and other facilities will participate in a large-scale disaster drill.
“Those in the Jacksonville and surrounding areas should be aware that there may be some minor traffic delays, depending on where they are driving,” said Paul Duncan, Safety Officer for Trinity Mother Frances - Jacksonville. “The delays should not be significant, but motorists are asked to treat the emergency vehicles just as they would if they encountered them during a real event. Please pull to the side of the roadway and allow the vehicles to pass. We want to thank everyone in advance for their cooperation.”
Disaster drill officials said that a simulated train derailment will be the basis of the drill and that dozens of law enforcement, EMS, hospital staff and others will be participating.
The drill is expected to last several hours.
